She likes drawing, she likes cute things and playing with dolls, and she tends to speak bluntly, such as telling Garry that he's weird for being uncomfortable around the dolls in the gallery or not listening to him when he tries explaining why she should protect her rose. She also tends to be very talkative and even a little bossy, usually whenever she's with Ib. She's also somewhat selfish and demanding, which is shown in her ending of the game where she takes the candy that was given to Ib by Garry.

Because Mary is also a painting come to life in Guertena's art gallery, she's not as affected by the horrors going on around her. She thinks the creepy dolls in the art gallery are cute, and instead of being afraid of what's going on she starts asking Ib personal questions and tells Ib what she wants to do as soon as she escapes the Fabricated World. Unlike the other paintings though, she's the only one who has a desire to be human and actually leave the gallery. This relates back to the fact that Mary still has the mind of a child, and wants things that other children want - love and companionship. A lot of the items in her world, which looks like a child's sketchbook, have to do with fairy tales and books on how to make friends, which shows how lonely she was in the art gallery.

But like the paintings in Guertena's gallery, she also has a violent side. Since the only way to leave the gallery is by taking Garry or Ib's place, she has no problem with targeting Garry in order to escape. When Garry discovers her secret and she finds out, she starts stabbing a mannequin head while muttering "in my way" over and over. When she's aware that her cover's about to be blown, she starts becoming increasingly paranoid with Ib, trying to get Ib to promise that they'll always stay together. At one point when Ib starts to leave her behind, Mary's paranoia reaches its peak and she threatens Ib with a knife before Garry comes to the rescue. This shows that Mary is terrified about her identity being uncovered and will go to any kind of length to get what she wants. It's also proof that she doesn't understand how friendships work, one moment being sweet and caring and the next using violence. But this is because of the insecurity that if she's found out, she'll be abandoned and she might never be able to escape again. That's why she attacks Garry and Ib once they discover her painting, and even in one ending she holds Ib's rose hostage (which is their life force in the Fabricated World) in exchange for Garry's claiming she likes his color better, which is really just her plan of killing him off in order to escape.

Abilities/Powers: None
Items/Weapons: A yellow rose, a sketchbook, and one of her creepy dolls.
Sample Entry:

[You know, a little girl who's all alone and lost in a scary-looking world should sound a little more terrified or at least a little panicked. But Mary? She sounds as cheerful as ever as she explores every part of her new "home". She doesn't seem too bothered about where she is, if anything she'll occasionally sound a bit disappointed that Haven isn't what she expected "outside" to look like.

What's caught her attention though is the battered cellphone she was given upon arrival.]

Hmm, what's this thing supposed to be anyway?

[She's never read about these kinds of things before. What was she supposed to use it for?]

Is it a toy? It looks pretty beaten up, but so does everything else here. Maybe if I can find someone to tell me what it does...oh well. [And then she frowns.] I hope I can find someone soon, I really don't wanna be here by myself.

Maybe I should check out that tunnel nearby. I wonder if it leads anywhere...

Sample Entry Two:

Mary woke up in a cold sweat, sitting up in a bed that wasn't hers. She didn't remember falling asleep, in fact, the last thing she remembered was fire. She remembered watching her portrait being burned by Ib and Garry, and as her painting went up in flames the sensation of burning followed soon after. Mary wasn't one to fully understand the concept of death, especially since she wasn't human to begin with, but she wasn't expecting to wake up someplace completely unfamiliar to her.

It takes a few minutes before she can adjust to her surroundings, still trying to calm down from her last memory of the Fabricated World. She wipes at her eyes while breathing heavily, not really sure why she felt so upset. It was frustrating, having all these emotions pour out like this. After regaining her composure and patting herself down just to reassure herself she was fine, she decides to figure out where she is. Having never been outside the gallery before, she's admittedly disappointed when she takes her first peek outside. Instead of seeing sun, flowers, and people like she imagined, she's greeted to the sight of a wasteland. While she still wanted to go exploring, it wasn't what she had hoped for.

"It's so ugly..."

Where was all the grass? Kids playing? This didn't match her expectations at all. Maybe it was prettier on the other side? It was worth checking out at least. She'd spent enough time indoors, that much she was certain of. Out of the corner of her eye, she spots a familiar, odd-looking doll with an eerie expression and wild hair. She gives a delighted cry before picking it up.

"Dolly! You followed me here, didn't you? Let's go exploring, okay?"

With her doll tucked under her arm, Mary sets out to investigate her new surroundings.

comments
